I’ve never been one to have a “word of the year”. I actually didn’t even start out this year having one. However, as we are over a month into 2022, I feel like God has repeatedly brought the word “FAITH” to my attention.
Faith has always been a gift of mine. Anytime I’ve taken one of those Spiritual Gifts tests, the gift of faith always ranks the highest. I mean oftentimes, my faith can be so big that it annoys others! You know, when that one friend just wants to vent but I can’t stop assuring them God is going to take care of the situation and they’re like “ok I know that but just let me vent.” That has happened plenty of times.
Though I am so thankful to have this gift of faith that I have and it is super nice to not be a “worry wart”, I think God has been teaching me about an entirely different level of faith.
God is teaching me that true faith always involves ACTION. I’m currently going through Hebrews and just this morning I was reading chapter 11 where we learn of all these giants of faith and the seemingly c r a z y steps of faith they took.
One thing that stuck out to me in particular was when the author was talking about Abraham. Verse 8 tells us, “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.”
Abraham went out.. not knowing where he was going. Like what?! I’m over here stressing about how in the world I will one day write a book, what could I possibly know about starting a YouTube channel, am I just going to one day bear our child and just know what to do??! And Abraham is over here leaving what’s comfortable to go to ANOTHER LAND and has no idea where he’s going!
Yet he went. By faith, he obeyed. And WOW did he receive an inheritance.
“And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:21
It is time to stop waiting for an instruction manual before we go do the things God has laid on our hearts. It is in the ACTION of turning to the right or turning to the left that God will give you confirmation and guidance.
And listen, don’t psych yourself out with trying to take some HUGE step. Oftentimes reaching those big things God has laid on our hearts starts with small – yet mighty – steps of faith. For me, that looks like writing this for you guys to read! I have no idea what it will look like to one day write a book, but I do know how to write out simple truths like this that are (hopefully) relatable. So this is what faith looks like for me today.
What would faith look like for you today?
